Before We Begin

1. Can you find anything beyond what I already have?

Often, yes.
Many clients come to me after exhausting online databases. My work goes deeper - into original parish, civil and migration records, cross-checking each generation carefully. Even when nothing new is found, you’ll receive clarity and documented confirmation of what is accurate.

2. How long does research take?

It depends on the complexity of the case and the availability of records.
Some questions can be clarified in a few hours. Others - particularly international or 19th-century investigations - require more time. After our initial discussion, I provide a realistic scope so you know what to expect.

3. What if my family story turns out to be wrong?

Family lore is valuable, but it isn’t always historically accurate.
Part of responsible genealogy is testing stories against documented evidence. Sometimes the records confirm what you’ve been told. Sometimes they reshape it. Either way, the goal is clarity grounded in fact.

4. Do you work with DNA results?

Yes, where appropriate.
DNA can be a powerful tool, particularly for unknown parentage or confirming hypotheses. However, it works best alongside traditional documentary research. I interpret results within a structured, evidence-based framework rather than relying on matches alone.

5. How does pricing work?

Services are offered as structured packages with clearly defined scope and outcomes, so you know what to expect from the outset. Each package is based on a set amount of research time and deliverables, tailored to the complexity of the enquiry.

For more specific or short-term needs, a targeted research and consultation option is also available. If your enquiry falls outside the standard packages, a tailored scope of work can be provided.

All pricing is discussed and agreed upon before any research begins.

6. What happens next if I’d like to begin?

The first step is a short consultation to discuss your goals, what you already know, and what documentation you have.
From there, I provide a clear research proposal outlining the focus of investigation. Once approved, I begin structured, evidence-based research and provide a written report with full source citations.

If you have more questions or are ready to begin your journey, I invite you to get in contact.
